Advancing Clinical Practice – Knowing is Better
The use of information and communication technology (ICT) in health care is gaining momentum. Health care professionals in many parts of the country are already working with electronic systems and seeing easier access to information needed for care, improved communication and coordination with colleagues, more efficient ways of working, and other benefits.
Building on this progress, a Canada-wide initiative is underway to create a network of point-of-care and electronic health record systems that can connect and share a patient’s pertinent health information with authorized clinicians, where and when it is needed.
This means health care professionals will have timely access to the most up-to-date information to make the best possible patient care decisions.
When it comes to the progress and clinical value of ICTs in health care, the Nova Scotia Informatics Group (NSNIG) together with Canada Health Infoway believe that knowing is better than not knowing.
